PASSWORD-PROTECTED SHARING

Protect the image with a password.
Only people who know it see it.

Add a password when the file should stay hidden even if the link reaches the wrong person. Whoever opens the link is asked for the password first; until it is entered, the file, its type and its size stay hidden. No account, and the file is deleted when the time you choose runs out.

How long should the link stay open?
Who can see it?

The file is stored on our server and deleted automatically when the time you choose runs out. It is shared as is: its EXIF data and metadata (including location) are not changed. Remove the location first with EXIF Scanner.

What does the password protect?

The share link already carries a 128-bit random key and cannot be guessed. The password is a second lock: even if the link reaches the wrong person through a chat history, a screenshot or a forwarded message, they cannot see the file without the password.

Apps like WhatsApp and Telegram show a preview when a link is pasted. For protected files the preview shows a generic cover, never the file, so nobody in the chat sees the image without opening the link.

How to use it

Choose the file, keep "Only people with the link and password" selected, and type a password of at least 8 characters, or use "Generate a strong password" for an easy-to-read random one. Upload, and the share link is ready.

Do not send the link and the password in the same message. For example, send the link by email and the password by phone or another app, so the file stays protected if only one of them leaks.

How is the password stored?

The password itself is never written anywhere. The server keeps only a one-way scrypt hash, so zirzibit cannot see the password and cannot reset it if forgotten. The hash is deleted with the file.

Wrong guesses are limited per address and per file: at most 10 wrong attempts in 15 minutes, then the file is locked for a while. A browser that enters the right password gets one strictly necessary cookie that keeps only that file open for at most an hour.

Uploading these is not allowed:

Every share page has a report section. Reported files are reviewed and deleted before they expire if they break the rules.

Frequently asked questions

Does password-protected sharing cost anything?

No. Password protection is free and needs no account. Images can be kept for 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days, videos for 1 hour or 24 hours.

What if I forget the password?

It cannot be reset, because the server only keeps a one-way hash of it. Upload the file again with a new password; you can delete the old upload with the delete link you were given.

How should I send the password?

Separately from the link. Sending the link in one app and the password in another, or saying it out loud, makes it much less likely that both reach the wrong person.

Can I embed a protected file on a forum?

No. Protected files are only shown on their own share page, after the password. That is why no direct image link or forum code is given. Upload without a password to embed a file.

What if someone tries to guess the password?

Each file accepts at most 10 wrong attempts in 15 minutes, then it is locked for a while. The same limit applies to each address separately. Use "Generate a strong password" for a long random password.

Who can see a protected file?

Only people who have the link and know the password. The file is never listed in a gallery and is closed to search engines. Admins can see it without the password to review abuse reports; the content rules apply to protected files too.
